Welcome to the Walking Post!

Hello!

First of all, thank you for being here!

And so, what is the Walking Post?

Well, the Walking Post website is meant to be a resource for news about hiking, walking, wandering, or rambling, whatever you want to call it!

It’s going to evolve, no doubt, but the idea is that it’s going to be primarily about the UK and Europe. Not because there aren’t some amazing walks elsewhere, there are. I’ve done lots of them! But keeping it Europe wide makes it a little more manageable, and perhaps more realistic for walkers looking for a walking trip.

It will include news about trails, new equipment and gear, books, in fact, everything to inspire you to walk, whether that’s in your local urban area, on day trips, or even a walking holiday.  And there will be a weekly podcast.

So, please keep coming back, I’m expecting it to be updated whenever there’s news. Hopefully at least several times a week.

We’ve deliberately chosen to not really do reviews. And here’s why. First, I don’t want it to look like I’m trying to sell you something. Second, reviews are a bit subjective. For example, when you go to a review site and see the most amazing new rainproof jacket, it might not fit. I’ve read many reviews and got excited about the item, only to find out it doesn’t come in my size. Or, being a long bodied person, the amazing shirt will be like a bikini top. So, we’ll give you all the details, and you can take it from there.

And a little about me.

I’ve been an avid walker since, well, I could walk. I’ve lived in several different countries, and hiked in dozens of countries around the world. I’m also experienced in all things media. I’m an award-winning writer, editor, photographer and designer. I started out on the radio, and then moved into print, editing magazines and newspapers. I’ve written, and taken photos for, hundreds of publications around the world, as well as for CD covers, redesigns for magazines, and lots of other things. I’ve also written nine books.

I currently reside in Scotland, where I try to walk daily, with a special walk at the weekend, although the weather in this part of the world doesn’t always comply. Nor does my border terrier, who would sooner lie in the grass. My 11-year-old son and my wife come along, too, and are usually willing participants.

I’d love to hear from you, whether it’s a comment, great idea, a press release, podcast guest suggestion or just to say hello!
