A new printed leaflet produced by West Lindsey District Council, in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, has been made available in time for anniversary celebrations this year.

The Viking Way, which opened in September 1976, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is a 149-mile long-distance footpath that runs from the Humber Bridge in North Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland. It crosses some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes including the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape.

Caistor Circular is part of the Viking Way Shorts series which are an ideal way to explore the Viking Way without having to go the full distance. Written by Lincolnshire County Council, these circular trails use part of the larger route and are filled with heritage, nature and scenic views.

Cllr Emma Bailey, chair of the Prosperous Communities Committee, said: “I’m delighted that West Lindsey District Council has been able to produce a printed leaflet of this walking route, especially in time for the 50th anniversary. Caistor is popular with walkers and its location on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds provides the most beautiful countryside views.”

Caistor Circular walk is a 3.75-mile walk starting in Caistor Market Place. The route links the historic market town with the village of Nettleton, passing Roman wall remains, springs, and attractive countryside along the way. It’s a route that blends local heritage with countryside paths and scenic views along the Viking Way. The walk takes approximately an hour and 45 minutes to complete.

Aimee Finlay, general manager at Caistor Lakes Leisure Park, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the Caistor Walk leaflet ready for launch. These guides are a fantastic resource, bringing together the beauty, heritage and accessibility of the local area in one place.

“At Caistor Lakes, we’re always looking for ways to help our guests connect more deeply with their surroundings, and this leaflet will be a wonderful addition to the experience we offer. It gives visitors the confidence and inspiration to explore further, discover hidden gems, and make the most of their time here.

“It’s also a fantastic way to encourage both the local community and visitors alike to discover the character and charm of Caistor, while embracing the simple pleasure of being outdoors. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with our guests and helping them experience everything this beautiful area has to offer.”

To request a hard copy of the leaflet email tourism.info@west-lindsey.gov.uk. The route can be viewed online at www.visitlincolnshire.com/vikingway.

Visitors can also join a guided walk during the Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival on 20 May, meeting at Caistor Market Place at 10am. No booking required. For more details visit www.woldsoutdoorfestival.com
