Suffolk County Council’s Way To Go team has announced new free walking and cycling activities in Ipswich and Lowestoft.
The team is offering 43 weekly walking and cycling groups, catering for all levels of ability from ‘cuppa and a stroll’ beginner meet-ups to more advanced walking and cycling sessions.
The new groups were launched this week and provide walks for targeted groups such as those living with memory loss and dementia, and parents and children.
There is also a regular Wednesday evening adult ‘easy cycling’ group in both locations.
Hundreds of residents have taken part in similar activities over the last two years.
Councillor Chris Chambers, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Transport Strategy, Planning and Waste said: “There’s never been a better time to embrace walking and cycling, whether you’re experienced or just getting started.
“As more people discover the benefits of active travel – improved health, reduced transport costs, and a positive impact on the environment – I am delighted to welcome these new groups and individuals. Walking and cycling are more than just ways to get around; they connect communities, create opportunities for social interaction, and make our streets more vibrant and accessible for everyone.”
By giving residents more choice in how they travel, whether for short journeys or as part of a longer trip, the Way to Go team hope that more people will choose to walk, cycle or wheel rather than automatically jump into their car.
