At its most recent meeting, the Municipal Committee of Malevizi on the northern coastline of the Greek island of Crete gave the green light for the start of a project for the creation of a hiking trail project.
The €188,442 project, which is funded by the Recovery Fund, will see the creation of three marked hiking trails with a total length of 22 km, of which 3km will be specially designed for people with disabilities.
The three trails are part of wider plans of the municipality for the development of alternative forms of tourism, with the aim of attracting visitors all year round. These are routes of medium difficulty, suitable for hikers of all ages. They will be created in Krousonas, with a length of 8.6km, in Tylisos (Voulimeni Aloni – Eri), with a hike of 6.8km and in the gorge of Almyros, which is 6.2km long.
On the route that will connect Voulimenos Aloni with the area of Keri, a specially-designed subsection of 3km will be created. This route will be more than 1.20m wide, with a small slope for easier access.
Malevizi’s was one of the 67 projects approved nationwide from 175 submitted for funding from the Recovery Fund. Upon completion, the routes will be included in the National Network of Trails and Hiking Routes.
