Walkers have a chance to enjoy a free five-week Nordic Walking beginners course starting in Hereford this April and continuing throughout National Walking Month in May.
Herefordshire Council said the courses – which tend to be booked quickly – are a great way to learn a new skill in a fun and friendly social atmosphere.
The course is led by Nordic Walking UK qualified instructor Alison Gaster. This spring there are two courses taking place. There are two options on Wednesdays at Aylestone Park, starting on April 30, with a course starting at 1pm with a second course at 2.30pm. Each course session lasts an hour.
There is also another free five-week course taking place on Mondays from Belmont Country Park starting from 9 June at 1pm.
Nordic walking is a full-body exercise that is easy on the joints and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It is based on using specially-designed walking poles in a way that harnesses the power of the upper body to propel you forward as you walk. Nordic walking uses 90% of the major muscles, compared to 45% used while regular walking, it burns around 46% more energy.
More five-week courses are planned for later this year.
