Two new bead trails will guide visitors and residents around key landmarks in the centre of Jablonec nad Nisou in Czechia. The city, known for its beads, has also installed 18 new red metal signposts at strategic locations to make finding their way around easier.

The project, Tourist Navigation System in Jablonec nad Nisou – Phase One, was developed by the city’s Office of Architecture (KAM). The total cost was CZK 2.5m, with funding provided by the city, the Czech Ministry for Regional Development and the Liberec Region.

The new navigation system links locations across the city, helping tourists and residents find their way around. The red signposts have been installed at locations including railway stations, the city centre, outlying areas and the Jablonec reservoir.

The signposts connect with two new bead trails, one green and one red. Their design follows the visual style of the existing trail, which runs between the Scheybal House and the town hall.

“We have installed 18 new metal signposts at locations that are important for helping visitors and residents find their way around. The new green and red bead trails also connect points of interest and offer a simple way to explore the city on foot,” said Pavlína Müllerová, head of the city’s KAM.

The green trail begins at the town hall and continues to Upper Square (Horní náměstí), along 28 October Street and through General Mrázek Park, before reaching the post office and theatre. The final section follows Komenského Street back to the town hall.

“The trail offers a pleasant walk through the centre of Jablonec while highlighting important locations around the city. Thanks to the navigation system, visitors can easily find places such as the theatre, post office and Upper Square,” says Müllerová.

The red trail starts at St Anne’s Church and continues to the State Museum of Glass and Jewellery. From there, it passes through Dr K. Farský Square and Peace Square (Mírové náměstí), before following Komenského Street back to St Anne’s Church.

The project was financed jointly by the city and through grants from the Czech Ministry for Regional Development and the Liberec Region.

“The total cost ultimately came to CZK 2.5m. The city initially planned to cover part of the cost from its own budget, and we looked for opportunities to secure additional grant funding to support the project. We prepared and submitted a grant application at the end of October last year under the Liberec Region’s Support for the Development of Public and Supporting Tourism Infrastructure in the Liberec Region 2025+ programme. The grant, covering 55% of eligible expenditure actually incurred, will make a significant contribution towards the overall cost,” said Iveta Habadová, head of the grants department at Jablonec nad Nisou City Council.
