Wiltshire dementia charity sets up walking group

People living with dementia will have a chance to enjoy nature and the landscapes of East Wiltshire together as part of Beyond Dementia’s new walking group.

The initiative has grown out of the charity’s regular Muddy Boots group which has met for outdoors activities and nature inspired craft for several years. Now the charity is starting a regular walking group, on the days that Muddy Boots does not meet, for some of the more active members, and is looking for more people to join in.

Head of Community Services Jon Aldridge-Mansfield said: “We’ll be heading out for relaxed walks of up to 1.5 miles, taking time to notice nature along the way – changing seasons, birdsong, open skies and quiet moments outdoors. Walking is the main focus, with conversation and shared experiences flowing naturally as an added bonus.

“There’s no pressure to keep up or to talk – participants are welcome to walk at their own pace and simply enjoy being outside. At the end of each walk, we come together to relax with tea and treats, rounding off the morning in good company. Whether you’re already part of Muddy Boots or new to our community, Walking Boots offers a simple, enjoyable way to keep moving, connect with others and enjoy the natural world together.”

Walking Boots will meet on the first and third Monday of the month with the first meeting on 19th January. The group will run in all weathers and is supported by trained volunteers.
