British outdoor brand Rab has revealed an update to the Pertex Shield shell collection.
The new spring/summer 2025 range features waterproof solutions across a variety of mountain activities – from ultralight mountain running and hiking to adventure biking and technical mountaineering.
Pertex and Rab have collaborated for many years, making products for outdoor pursuits. Pertex Shield is a waterproof and windproof fabric that is breathable, lightweight and packable. It is available in a 2, 2.5 and 3-layer construction, depending on the intensity of the activity and the ruggedness required.
For alpine and mountaineering, the collection includes the Firewall Alpine Jacket for alpine linkups and exposed ridge traverses in harsh mountain environments. The jackets features a 20D Pertex Shield 3-layer construction. The collection also includes the Firewall Mountain Jacket & Pants; 40D Pertex Shield 3-layer waterproof designed for year-round hiking and mountaineering missions.

In the hiking and all-mountain section, there is the Firewall Jacket & Pants, designed for mountain hikes, constructed with 40D Pertex Shield 3-layer construction, and the Downpour Mountain Jacket & Pants, with a 2.5-layer 40D Pertex Shield protection that balances lightweight comfort with performance. There is also the Downpour Jacket & Pants, everyday waterproofs built with a 2.5-layer 50D Pertex Shield.
For trail running, there are two new options. The Downpour Trail Light Jacket is for year-round mountain running with optimal breathability to-protection ratio, with a 20D Pertex Shield 2.5-layer construction; and the Phantom Jacket & Pants features featherlight waterproofs with a 7D Pertex Shield 2.5-layer construction.
Adventure biking features the Cinder Phantom Jacket: a waterproof biking jacket designed specifically for cyclists braving the elements, with a 7D Pertex Shield 2.5-layer construction.
The new Pertex Shield collection is built without intentionally added PFAS and incorporates fully or partially recycled materials throughout. Each product includes a table detailing the exact percentage of recycled content and PFAS status, as well as the country of origin and the percentage of renewable energy used in the production process. Rab said it intends to eliminate all intentional use of PFAS from their ranges by autumn/winter 2025, including from zips and trims.
Rab also provides consumers with care instructions to maintain waterproof effectiveness throughout the product’s lifecycle, and offers product care and repair services through its service centres.
