Mammut Sports Group AG has launched the Mammut Mountain School UK, offering mountain skills courses for adventurers of all levels.

The school will be located in Kendal, in Cumbria.

Heiko Schäfer, CEO of Mammut, said: “The introduction of the Mammut Mountain School marks an important step in how we support our consumers in the UK. The UK’s outdoor community has a rich tradition of exploration and excellence in mountain environments. Through the Mammut Mountain School, we aim to contribute to these traditions by equipping mountain enthusiasts with the knowledge and skills they need to move through the mountains safely and with confidence.”

The Mammut Mountain School offers courses for a wide range of abilities, from beginners learning navigation or scrambling techniques to more advanced participants preparing for alpine expeditions or acquiring crevasse rescue and avalanche safety skills. The programmes draw on the diverse landscapes of the UK and also prepare individuals for alpine ventures. Each course is designed to provide practical and effective instruction, tailored to the needs of its participants.

Based in the Lake District, the Mammut Mountain School is led by Sam Sykes. Coming from a family with more than 50 years’ experience in delivering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Sam has devoted his career to outdoor education and training. He operates Sam Sykes Expeditions and the Mountain School through the Sykes Group, with the latter now becoming the Mammut Mountain School. From the Lake District headquarters, he and his team deliver Duke of Edinburgh expeditions across the UK and overseas, as well as training and assessing new outdoor instructors.

Sykes said: “Ever since I was a child, Mammut has inspired me, and throughout my outdoor career, we’ve built a strong partnership. I’m thrilled to deepen this collaboration even further with the Mammut Mountain School by sharing skills, knowledge, and confidence – motivating more people to experience safe and memorable mountain adventures together.”
