Garmin has announced the Venu X1 smartwatch with an ultrathin design, 2-inch display and high battery life. Venu X1 fuses a titanium caseback with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and an AMOLED display with an 8mm watch case.

It also features a built-in speaker and microphone so users can make and take calls from the wrist, plus an LED flashlight. It also has up to 8 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.

“Venu X1 is the perfect blend of form, function and style. Not only does it pack all of Garmin’s most popular features into a slim profile, but the large display makes it easy to see everything from preloaded maps and workout stats to health insights and smart notifications with stunning clarity,” said Susan Lyman, Garmin vice president of consumer sales and marketing.

The 8mm watch case features a rectangular design with rounded corners, and built-in watch faces are customisable so users can see the data they rely on the most—from current step count and real-time heart rate to altitude and training readiness. There are also more font sizes to help make notifications easier to read. The watch has a 24mm quick-release ComfortFit nylon band. It is available in two colours, black and moss.

The phone’s voice assistant can respond to text messages. Certain voice commands like “start a running activity” and “set a timer for 5 minutes” can also be activated from the watch without a phone connection.

Venu X1 has a suggested retail price of $799.99 and will be available in June.
