With a new website, registrations are now open for Maldon District Council’s free Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival.
This year’s festival in Essex will combine both coastal and countryside with more than 30 guided walks to choose from.
James Burrell-Cook, chair of Maldon District Tourism Group, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Saltmarsh Walking Festival again this year with Maldon District Council.
“There are a variety of walks you can join, whether that be guided walks led by local experts, alternatively if you’d prefer to discover the area at your own pace you can explore our self-guided routes, available all year-round. There is something for everyone.”
Cllr. Richard Siddall added: “We are extremely lucky to have 75 miles of the Saltmarsh coast within the district and want to share all it has to offer. We are proud to once again be working with our wonderful partners to deliver the festival and hope to see you there!”
The free walking festival is taking place from September 27 to October 6 and will take walkers on routes around the district, showcasing some of the areas hidden gems.
The first day kicks off with four walks of three to 12 miles, one of which is a linear walk that includes a boat trip for the return journey. Saturday’s highlights include a pub walk and a ferry ride to visit RSPB Wallasea Island. The festival also includes a photography workshop walk, wellness walks, wine tasting, history walks, and walks to nature reserves.
All abilities and ages are welcome to take part in the festival, and there will also be evening entertainment and special guest appearances.
