Caerphilly County Borough Council is hosting a new event, Sultan’s Challenge, to showcase a new local walking route. The event will take place on Sunday 11th October.
Sultan’s Challenge, which is 10.5 miles long, will start from Tŷ Penallta, Ystrad Mynach at 10am. This route is self-led and offers a rewarding challenge for walkers. Participants must be able to read a map due to the self-guided nature of the challenge.
Starting at Parc Penallta, the route passes landmarks including Sultan the Pit Pony, the Penallta Observatory, and the medieval church of St Catwg’s.
An alternative accompanied group walk is also on offer through Sultan’s Social Stroll which will take place slightly later at 11am. This guided walk is aimed at those who would prefer a shorter walk at three to five miles long.
Participants will be fully responsible for ensuring they are medically fit and adequately prepared for their route, including food, clothing, mobile phone and navigation equipment.

Sultan’s Challenge is a free ticketed event with 100 spaces, registration closing on Thursday 8th October. The shorter route, the Sultan’s Social Stroll, does not require a ticket.
