Singapore’s five Community Development Councils (CDCs), in partnership with the National Heritage Board (NHB) and Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech Singapore), have launched Walking Trails @ CDC (Heritage Edition) – a new series of neighbourhood trails that combine physical activity with the discovery of Singapore’s heritage.
Officiated by David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education, the initiative introduces five new heritage-themed trails across Singapore, that weave together walking, digital exploration and stories from the nation’s shared past.
The Heritage Edition builds on the public response to the earlier Walking Trails @ CDC launched last August. Since its launch, the trails have recorded more than 80,000 trail completions with about 30,000 residents. Over the next two years, 20 heritage themed trails will be rolled out across Singapore.
Developed with NHB, the trails highlight historic landmarks, cultural sites and everyday spaces that tell the story of Singapore’s communities. By bringing heritage into neighbourhood walking routes, residents can rediscover familiar districts while gaining deeper insights into the places and traditions that shaped them.
The new trails span diverse neighbourhoods across Singapore. In Central Singapore, participants can explore the historic Kampong Glam precinct, including the Masjid Sultan, a National Monument. In Tampines, residents can discover the town’s evolution and community spaces in Singapore’s first World Habitat Award winning township. Other routes include a coastal trail in Woodlands, a Bedok trail tracing former coastlines and locations where military landmarks used to be, and a Jurong scenic walk highlighting the Stoneboat at the Chinese Garden.
Along each route, participants complete digital checkpoints that unlock bite sized heritage stories and interactive content, transforming a simple walk into a self-guided neighbourhood heritage experience.
Walking Trails @ CDC (Heritage Edition) also supports the national Healthier SG movement. It encourages regular walking, one of the most accessible forms of preventive health, while strengthening understanding of Singapore’s shared history and identity.
Designed for residents of all ages, the programme encourages family and intergenerational participation, fostering stronger community bonds through the shared exploration of local history.
The CDC Ollies digital mascots also return in this edition, representing the five community pillars of Caring, Learning, Inclusive, Healthy and Sustainable. A sixth Special Edition “mystery” Ollie will debut in this series. Participants who spot all six Ollies will receive a $10 reward.
RedeemSG Rewards vouchers will continue to be offered to encourage participation. Eligible participants who complete designated checkpoints will receive vouchers credited through their CrowdTaskSG accounts. The programme is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents aged 15 and above with Singpass and CrowdTaskSG accounts.
