The contract for the implementation of a project of particular importance for the promotion of the natural wealth and the strengthening of the mild tourist development of the area, was signed by the Mayor of Prespes, Giorgos Stergiou.
The project to construct a network of paths of the Municipality of Prespes in Greece has been signed off by the Mayor, Giorgos Stergiou.
Calling the project important for tourism in the area, the mayor said the budget of €318,626.58 was funded by the Operational Program “Western Macedonia 2021–2027”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national resources.
Prespes is a region where the borders of Greece, North Macedonia and Albania meet. It includes the Prespa National Park and a small portion of Lake Prespa. The small region, which is Greece’s most sparsely populated, only has a population of around 1,500 people over 515 square kilometres, with the main community being the village of Laimos.
The project includes the construction, improvement and marking of a network of hiking and environmental trails with a total length of 32km located in municipal forests, small-scale mild forest recreation interventions – such as viewpoints and outdoor stopping areas, and enhancing accessibility and safety for residents and visitors.
Florina, 45 minutes south, serves as the main gateway—KTEL buses run from there to Laimos and Psarades a few times weekly, while Thessaloniki’s three-hour drive via Egnatia Odos remains the fastest land route for anyone flying in.
