Three new destinations continue book publisher Bradt’s programme of bringing the famous Cadogan guides back to market, each fully updated by a local expert.
In each case the original text, by guidebook authors Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls, has been expanded into the Bradt Guides format and updated to include all the latest developments.
From exploring Cathar castles to drifting down the Canal du Midi, from a bustling city break in vibrant Montpellier, Nîmes or Narbonne to an entrancing wander around the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Carcassonne, the ‘wild Cévennes and the Gorges du Tarn, Languedoc-Roussillon in southwest France offers a slick cosmopolitan adventure, with the endless delights of regional food, wine and culture around every corner.
Northern Spain, covering Navarra, La Rioja, the Basque Country, Cantabria, the Picos de Europa, Asturias, Old Castille and Leon and Galicia, explores Celtic heritage, pinxtos (Basque tapas) traditional asador barbeques, surf breakers in the Bay of Biscay, walks and watching wildlife in the mountains, the Feve narrow-gauge railway and bike rides along a ‘Via Verde’ (a disused railway line converted into walking and cycling routes), among others.
Catalunya & Barcelona has the most extensive coverage of any travel guidebook to the whole of this fiercely independent region (both French and Spanish sides), which packs a huge amount into a conveniently small area. There’s in-depth coverage of Barcelona, the provincial capitals of Girona, Tarragon and Lleida, the Costa Brava (where fishing villages and isolated beaches offset mass-tourism resorts), the Pyrenees (including Andorra) and French Catalunya (including Perpignan).
These titles join a list of Bradt guidebooks that Dana and Michael have previously written on regions of France, Italy and Greece.
Facaros said: “The pleasure of sharing our discoveries with readers is as strong today as it was when I wrote my first guidebook to the Greek islands in 1977! Michael and I hope that anyone travelling to France or Spain will consider these wonderful regions for their next trip, and that our new books can help them get the most from each journey.”
