Adventure trail launched in Hythe

New Forest District Council and Waterside Primary School have launched a new Viking themed adventure trail in Hythe.

The storytelling trail was developed with pupils from the school, working with local artist and author Simon Chadwick.

The mile-long trail begins at Langdown Estate and winds through local woodlands, ending at the Shore Road playing fields.

Along the way, families can follow a map, complete fun challenges, and uncover the mystery of the Viking ghost who washed ashore in Hythe.

Residents and visitors can pick up free Trail Tale booklets in Hythe or download them online.

Cllr Dan Poole, portfolio holder for Community, Safety and Wellbeing, said: “This has been a great opportunity to help encourage families to enjoy the benefits of being outdoors explore their local green spaces and neighbourhoods in a fun and imaginative way. All of this is proven to support mental wellbeing, physical health, and community connection.”

Emma Moakes, headteacher at Waterside Primary School, said: “Our children loved being involved in this exciting project and seeing it through to its publication. Seeing them playing together and interacting with the local environment whilst learning about its history and significance locally was wonderful. I hope that local families enjoy and make the most of this fantastic resource.”

The initiative was supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
